After spending 6 years in the United States Marine Corps, Dr. Paul Cris Barkmeier attended California State University Long Beach, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in 2003. In 2005, he attended Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, where he graduated at the top of his class in 2008. At LACC, he received extensive instruction in neuromusculoskeletal diagnosis, anatomy, physiology, and chiropractic manipulation.
Dr. Barkmeier was first introduced to Active Release Technique in chiropractic school while searching for effective ways to treat musculoskeletal injuries. He found that ART resolved musculoskeletal injuries more efficiently and much quicker than conventional soft tissue treatments. Realizing the effectiveness of ART, he became certified and began to use it as the primary method of diagnosing and treating his patients.
When he is able to get away from the office, Dr. Barkmeier enjoys running, surfing, biking, and reading. He has run the Los Angeles Marathon, San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon, Las Vegas Marathon, and plans to run atleast 2 more marathons this year. He also plans on training for an Ironman Triathlon. “You always have to set goals for yourself”, is something he frequently says to his patients and practices himself while setting his most recent goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
“My patients appreciate that I practice ART. They know that I want them to return to normal health quickly and avoid surgery; ART gives me the tools to ensure this happens.” – Dr. Cris Barkmeier, DC
